How does my child get into or qualify for the Zenith program? Good Question. Here is a copy of the body of a letter sent by the district's Director of Elementary Education that should help answer that: Dear Parents:
Each year the Willoughby-Eastlake elementary schools administer the Cognitive
Abilities Test (CogAT) to kindergarten students. This test is completed in
February and the results are returned to the district by the end of March. The
CogAT measures students' ability to reason and solve various types of problems.
Verbal, quantitative, and nonverbal exercises are used to assess students'
cognitive development. This year you are receiving the test results for your child in the form
of a Profile Narrative Report. This Narrative helps explain the context of the
scores for your child (on the front page), and the interpretation of the report
(on the back page). The results of this test are good for the next two years and can be used
to help identify academically talented children for our Zenith program. A copy
of this report will be placed in the cumulative folder of your child. We ask that you take a minute or two to read through the information
contained in this Narrative. If you have additional questions about test scores
for your child, please call your building Principal or feel free to call me at
975 - 3755. Yours in Education, Timothy S.
