WEAGT MEETING JANUARY 19, 2010   MINUTES

Present:  Board members:  Sue Luck, Ryan Cummins;  Administration:  Amy Harker; Parents:  Sandy Foltz, Diane Nash, Donna Burrell, Shanti Blatnik, Lynann Panchula, Julie Bailey, Cindy Strunk

Meeting began at 7:02 pm with the Pledge of Allegiance.

Welcome by Sue Luck.  All attendees stated their name and name(s) of their Zenith students.  Reading of the December minutes were waived.

Comments from Mrs. Harker – Mrs. Stevens is attending the Elementary school spelling bee tonight.  Washington is represented by 5th graders Hannah Miao and Shane Levermann.  In the first two weeks of February, all kindergarten and second grade students throughout the district will be tested using the Iowa and/or COGAT tests.  This is the first time second grade students are included in this testing.   It will allow for gifted identification.  Results will be available in early April.   Our 5th & 6th grade students took the Iowa in the fall, and they are getting their results back.  These scores help in identification and placement for the upcoming year.  Mrs. Harker referenced the Zenith link on the District home page as a valuable resource for summer opportunities, especially for older students.

Treasurers Report:  Ryan Cummins reviewed the current budget with balances.

President’s comments – Sue Luck congratulated Washington’s representatives in the spelling bee.  She asked for volunteers for the upcoming COSI assembly.  Sandy Foltz spoke of the progress of this year’s auction.  Donations are coming in slowly and help is needed both in group work and work from home.  We will be raffling off two Kalahari suites.  Tickets are available to anyone interested.  Please contact Sandy if you have time and resources to share.

PTA comments – Diane Nash shared upcoming school wide events sponsored by PTA including:  COSI, Skating Party, Spring Malley’s Chocolate Sale, Spring Bulb sale, Carnival and the next PTA meeting on March 2nd.

Meeting adjourned at 8:10 pm

Respectfully submitted,

Sue Luck, President
