Meeting Minutes

February 5, 2009

Washington Elementary Library

OPENING:

Tim Higgins called the meeting to order at 7:05 pm

Minutes from the January meeting were approved.

PRINCIPAL/VICE PRINCIPAL REPORT:

Mrs. Stevens stated that Tony Marinelli from Willoughby Middle will be at the April 21st meeting to discuss Camp Invention.  Teachers from Camp Invention will also be there to speak about it.

Mrs. Harker reviewed the RISE program.  Tickets are given to students who show respect, and good behavior.  Every Thursday the teacher will draw a ticket and that student will be awarded a prize.  This month there is a Marine from the community that comes in and speaks to the students.  Mrs. Harker also reviewed the W-E website, and will be adding the summer opportunities.

Kim Aliazzi stated that the Auction invitations have been mailed.  We have a lot of donations, but we need more. We have two sets of orthodontia this year.  One is from Dr. Omerza, and the other of from Dr. Scotese.  There are tickets to different events, gift cards, etc.  The student donation letters have brought in $5500.  We will be getting a letter to each student reminding them to send a thank you to everyone who donated money on their behalf.

Michelle Marcsik said that the pre-sale of the Captians tickets is going well.  That includes a loge, tickets, and food for 16 people. The seller of the winning ticket will receive $25.

Mrs. VanFossen and Mrs. Zalar were there and they spoke about their experience with Nancy Weber.  Both teachers thought it was very helpful, and enjoyed it very much.

Mrs. VanFossen spoke about how she learned to use a box method.  She filled it with material and allowed each student to choose what they wanted to learn about a particular subject.  She also stated that children can learn from each other, not just the teacher.

Mrs. Zalar showed us how she uses the Math meeting on the computer everyday.

Both teachers stated they would like to have Nancy Weber back next year.  Thank you both, Mrs. VanFossen and Mrs. Zalar for sharing that information with us.

The March 3rd meeting we will create a nominating committee for the 2009-2010 WEAGT Officers.  The officers will be voted on in the April meeting.

Meeting was adjourned at 8pm

Next meeting will be March 3rd, at 7pm in the Washington Library
