WEAGT Membership Meeting MINUTES -- DRAFT March 6, 2008 —
Washington Library Present: Tim
Higgins, Sue Luck, Annette Thompson, Amy Harker, Michelle Marcsik, Tonya
Mihalek, Lynann Panchula, Nancy Rebert, Jackie Rosenberger, Dina Rossi, Judy
Shrefler, Amy Soltesz, Betty Stevens, Lori Wylie Tim Higgins called meeting to order at 7 p.m. and led us in
the Pledge of Allegiance. Guest: Judy
Shrefler, Willoughby Middle PTO president, spoke to the group about that
organization and encouraged parents of upcoming middle schoolers to participate. Nominating
Committee: Michelle Marcsik,
Dina Rossi and Jackie Rosenberger agreed to serve on the committee.
A slate of officers is needed for consideration at the April meeting. Washington
Principal’s Report: v The W-E district’s email communication system is now in place; parents must sign up online to receive email notifications. Check the Washington newsletter. v The newsletter will also include Everyday Math resources, info and links. v 5th grade program was cancelled due to weather; they are working to reschedule. v
Congratulation to 5th grader Luke Liberatore, who
placed 2nd in district spelling bee (winner was 8th
grader). Zenith
Coordinator’s Report: v Info for gifted students on Web – Mrs. Harker will work to create links; WEAGT website already has many. v Midwest Academic Talent Search testing – letters went out in the fall for 7th and 8th grade students. Many Willoughby Middle parents reported that they did not receive. v
Many summer opportunities are available for gifted students,
including W-E’s Camp Invention. PTA report: v Volunteers needed for COSI and Book Fair v 3/19 night at Beef O’Brady’s v
Malley’s fundraiser will accept internet orders until 3/17; PTA
looking for fresh ideas for fundraising. Other business: v
Mrs. Harker followed up with teachers regarding the disposition of
unspent budget items. It was
determined that certain line items would not be spent this year.
Annette Thompson made a motion to transfer the
following unused funds to technology/software fund and purchase 2 additional
ELMOs, carts and projectors at a cost of @ $3,000: o
competition fees - $1,000 o
COSI Field Trip - $250 o
Curriculum Development - $700 o
Honors Class Enrichment - $500 o
Magazines for Classrooms - $377.99 o
Summer Reading Program - $347.45
Motion was seconded by Sue Luck; membership voted to pass. v
Family fun night went very well. Adjournment: Dina Rossi motion, Michelle Marcsik seconded the motion. |
