WEAGT MEETING – FEBRUARY 11, 2010

MINUTES:

Present:  Board Members:  Sue Luck, Tonya Mihalek, Ryan Cummins,

Joyce Hribar Fiebig;   Administration:  Betty Stevens, Amy Harker;

Parents:  Sandy Foltz, Amy Soltesz, Cindy Strunk, Lori Wylie;

Meeting began at 7:07 PM. with the Pledge of Allegiance.

Minutes from the January meeting were distributed and approved.

Comments from Mrs. Stevens:  Mrs. Stevens thanked all for the parent support for the COSI event.  It was very successful and it has been tentatively booked for the next school year.  March is a very busy month with many events including the Open Houses for all classes.  Mrs. Van Fossen had a baby girl and both mom and baby are doing well.  Mrs. Domizi took over the classroom and of course is right at home teaching third grade.

Comments from Mrs. Harker:  Mrs. Harker distributed an article entitled,

“Helping Gifted Students with Stress Management” which can be viewed

at www.hoagiesgifted.org/eric/e488.html .  Mrs. Harker regularly updates

her website which can be accessed through the school website by clicking

on staff, and under Mrs. Harker’s name it states “Zenith Coordinator” .  Mrs. Harker also mentioned later in the meeting that high school students can

benefit from visiting her website as well.  There are available internships

for summer time which are posted on her website.  Deadlines are February

 and March.

Treasurer’s Report:  Ryan Cummins reported that $679 was appropriated in the budget for purchase of an ELMO for the 6th grade classroom that did not have one as yet.  This purchase will be made from the technology line item of the budget.  Motion to purchase the ELMO was made by Ryan and seconded by Lori Wylie.

Auction Report:  Sandy Foltz began by saying that she was having fun with the chairperson duties.  She detailed the volunteer work that needed to be done before the auction. Sandy also mentioned that decisions need to be made soon regarding booking the location for next year’s auction and other options as to continuing the same format.

President’s Comments:  Sue Luck mentioned that the Independent Study meeting (to detail for parents the parameters of projects) did not happen in February.  This will be discussed in March. Sue also discussed an idea whereby the school district might accept credit for classes held at the Fine Arts school and other learning facilities.  These ideas were discussed at the Ohio Association of Gifted Children conference.

PTA updates:  Amy Soltesz mentioned that there are many upcoming PTA events including the movie night at Washington, Open House, Book Fair, the Malley’s candy sale, Muffins with Mom and the Chick-Fil-A event at the end of the month.

Meeting adjourned at 8:01 P.M.

Submitted, Joyce Hribar Fiebig, Secretary
