Meeting began at 7:02 PM.

President Sue Luck began the first meeting of the school year with an introduction of officers and a welcome to all attending.  All attendees stated their names and name(s) of their Zenith student(s).

Principal Mrs. Stevens welcomed everyone to the new school year.  She announced the names of Stephanie McCullough as the new third grade teacher, Pam Wadsworth as the new second grade teacher and Michelle Van Arnhem as the new first grade teacher (formerly second grade).  Rachel Seifert is the new sixth grade teacher at Willoughby Middle School.  She stated the year was off to a good start.

Gifted Coordinator Mrs. Harker also welcomed the attendees.  She explained the new role that Mrs. Ciferno holds in the Zenith program.  Formerly a first grade teacher at Washington, Mrs. Ciferno will be traveling to all elementary schools within the district to provide enrichment to individual students at their home schools.

Sue Luck reviewed WEAGT’s purpose and mission:  to provide enrichment to our gifted student population; She then reviewed the result of last year’s auction proceeds which amounted to the most successful auction held to date.

The next topic was that of the 2009-2010 budget.  Ryan Cummins reviewed the proposed budget line by line.  The description of each item was read.  The only change on the budget submitted was to delete the name of a teacher under the Fine Arts category as no formal arrangements have been made with that teacher to provide art lessons to the students.  Motion was made to approve the budget, the motion was seconded and motion carried.  The Budget was approved.

Sue Luck then mentioned upcoming events including the Welcome Picnic on Sunday, September 20th, the membership drive to recruit Zenith parents and the OAGC Conference Parent Day.

Sue Luck then spoke of forming a committee to review the current By-Laws of WEAGT.  Such a committee should be formed within the next few weeks.  Also, a chairperson for the auction must be named as soon as possible.  Kim Aliazzi, who served as chairperson of last year’s auction, delivered over the summer to Sue, a large white binder with detailed notes of auction how-to information.

Next, Sue Luck summarized for new parents, the Independent Study projects that are completed by Zenith students each year.  She stated that this is a very special part of the Zenith program that benefits the children immensely.

PTA President Amy Soltesz mentioned that PTA was to hold their first meeting on Wednesday, September 23rd at 7 PM and all are welcome to attend.

Discussion was had regarding the Internet Study Island program.  This program is district wide.  Students can access the program on the district website by entering their “first.last name@wes” and the password is “student”.  They can choose their own password for future use.

Meeting adjourned at 7:45 P.M.

Submitted, Joyce Hribar Fiebig, Secretary
