Meeting Minutes

March 3, 2009

Washington Elementary Library

OPENING:

Tim Higgins called the meeting to order at 7:02 p.m.

Vice Principal: Mrs. Harker thanked all for the auction.  The 4th and 5th graders will go to Willy Wonka on March 10.  Each month will be an art lesson, until May.   Summer programs are added each week to the website, please be sure to check for the updates.

Principal: Mrs. Stevens said the Auction was phenomenal, largest one ever.  Thanks to everyone for their help.  COSI will be March 24 and March 25. We need lots of parent volunteers to help.  This will be all day.  Camp invention will be in June at Willoughby Middle.  Tony Marinelli will be at the April meeting with some teachers from Camp Invention to discuss the program.

Tim thanked Kim Aliazzi for taking over Auction.

Kim thanked all for helping.  We had a lot of volunteers.  This was a record breaking year on attendance, we had approximately 280, and profit. Everyone seemed to enjoy the auction.  Bob Hale, Auctioneer, Brian Lajunesse, Mark Rosenberger, all complemented each other and worked very well together.

Tim stated the funds we raised at the auction will be spent next year.  Budget will be formed in August and voted on in September by membership. We will add a line item on budget for Computers.  We are looking for ways to expand to middle and high school funding.

Tim opened the floor up for questions/comments about the auction.

Stephanie Perusek – Questioned the budget needs.  She thought we should work on what needs to be had now instead of in September. We can look at getting grants from outside sources for computers in the library.

Mrs. Stevens stated that we are following state guidelines on technology.  There is a levy in May that will help with building, structure and computers.

Amy Soltesz – PTA President stated we are looking for different ideas to fundraise for computers. Having Beef O’Bradys night where one night each grade level, teachers to serve, etc. We would like to have more people attend.

Students can take Act/Sat in 7th grade.  Will get results where you stand against 12th graders.  Parents can see where students rank among seniors. There is a course at Lakeland for prep.

April Meeting will be the election for the 09-10 WEAGT officers.    Nominating committee will be formed.  Tim asked members if they would be interested in becoming an officer of the board.

There will be a reminder to parents to be on the board via email.

Sue Luck stated that we need volunteers for COSI March 24/25th.

OAT’s April 21, 23, 27, 29, week after Spring Break. Study Island is a great place to practice, and review.  Tutors are in school to help those students who need help.  Media center will be open to assist students who need to use computers to review.

Minutes from the February meeting were approved.

Tim thanked Sue for getting the info about the Auction published in the News Herald.

Mrs. Harker spoke about RISE. Tickets are given for respect, and if you are caught helping another student.  Each Thursday a ticket is drawn from each class to get a special prize from the office. The end of the month the class with the most tickets wins a special treat, such as extra recess, extra gym, etc.

Meeting adjourned 8:06 pm

Next Meeting April 21, at Washington Library
