28th Annual Dinner & Auction
Saturday,
February 25, 2006 A
fun, adults-only evening and an exciting way to get to know other parents with
children in the Zenith program (past
and present), and the proceeds enrich the program for our children. Parents of the W-E school district are very fortunate to have the Zenith program for our children. Please help support our efforts to enrich their school experience and see why we say, “Kids are the Heart of Learning”. Thank you! Mark
your 2007 calendar: February 24, 2007. Auction is a Success
The 28th Annual Dinner and Auction held February 25th 2006, at the Patrician Party Center in Eastlake, was "another successful auction" said Mrs. Betty Stevens, principal at Washington, as she thanked the many volunteers who worked on the project. "Last night was enjoyable." she added. The event, which seems to get bigger and better every year, raised $19,000.00 which will be used to enhance the education of the 300 students in the Zenith program in the Willoughby Eastlake schools district. What started as a wine and cheese social, drew 229 attendees who bid through silent and Chinese auctions on 180 packages, and oral auction on 40 "lots". The class projects drew the most interest as the works of personalized art ranging from handmade quilts to decorated mirrors, and tables. A Mrs. Albanese's 4th grade class project of popcorn and board games including the homemade, "Washingtonopoly" got a top bid of $500.00! One third grade project, Mrs. Hart's class, received a high bid of $475.00!
Volunteers were working the day before getting set up, and right up until the opening at 5:30pm. The room looked wonderful. A presentation slide show featuring students was being broadcast on the main stage, along with a trio of musicians who kept the mood pleasant and engaging. DJ Scott Hanna provided background while the oral auction was commencing, and cranked it up at the end to keep the fun going until 11pm. Christopher Axelrod served as emcee and brought his wild collection of jackets and outfits to keep the crowd wondering, "What will he do next?" Auctioneers from By Auctions, provided the hammer that finalized the bid. Going... .. gone! Sold to the highest bidder who firmly believes that Kids are the Heart of Learning!
